Citi in Japan
Citi’s client base in Japan includes governmental institutions, financial institutions, multinational corporations and institutional investors. Citi has a long and proud history of serving these clients across a broad range of products, including corporate and investment banking, markets and securities services, capital markets origination, treasury and trade solutions, and research.
We aim to deliver highly innovative products and services through an unrivalled global network to support the growth of our clients.
Comprehensive financial services for institutional clients
Citi’s main focus in Japan is on its corporate and institutional businesses, including Corporate and Investment Banking, Markets and Securities Services (sales, trading, and research across rates, FX, equities and credit markets), Capital Markets Origination (ECM and DCM), and Treasury and Trade Solutions (cash management and trade finance). Our corporate banking and treasury and trade solutions businesses are among the largest of all foreign banks operating in Japan.
Deep and trusted client relationships
Citi serves top-tier Japanese multinationals, financial institutions, institutional investors and public sector entities, as well as foreign multinationals and global investors that operate or invest in Japan. The depth of our relationships with institutional Japanese clients, which in some cases date back more than 60 years, gives Citi “main foreign bank” status that differentiates it from foreign competitors.
Global network supports multinational clients
Citi’s key competitive strength is a global banking franchise that is unmatched by other financial institutions. Our Japan Desk Network serves Japanese multinational clients in 11 countries. Citi is ideally positioned to help Japanese clients build their offshore operations and pursue acquisitions or diversify investment portfolios overseas. The connectivity we provide is an important asset for Japanese clients with global aspirations.
Presence in Okinawa for more than 20 years
Citi commenced operations in Naha in 1999 and has established deep ties with the Okinawan community. Okinawa is the base for several of Citi’s financial business divisions, including Operations and Technology. Citi intends to further strengthen its presence in Okinawa and will continue to actively recruit local residents.
